Since my last newsletter in August, all the teams have completed their matches and the final league positions have now been confirmed.
Congratulations to Caroline Ritchie and her Cecil Leitch B Team Squad who have won Cecil Leitch Division 4. This is only the second year that we have had a Cecil Leitch B Team and having won Division 5 last year and got promotion, to win their league for a second successive year is a tremendous achievement. They will be attending the County Presentation Dinner at Carlisle Golf Club at the end of September to collect their trophy.
Our other teams had mixed results, the Silver Scratch Team finished 2nd behind Kendal in Division 1. The Silver B Team finished 3rd in Division 4 and the Cecil Leitch A Team finished 3rd in Division 1.
Our ‘Get into Golf’ Ladies are progressing well with their lessons under Graeme’s tuition. They really are beginning to hit the ball well and have already been using a driver and irons and are now progressing on to putting. Their final lessons in September will hopefully include playing a few holes on the course, weather permitting.
We are organising a Ladies Quiz Night in October and will be inviting these ladies to join us for the evening. It will be teams of 4 ladies, so I hope you will all get your grey cells working in preparation! Susan and I will be setting the questions, so we have some homework to do over the next couple of weeks.
The Open 4BBB, was well supported and it took a countback on holes 16, 17 & 18 to split myself & Lisa from the eventual winners – Carol Armitt & Pam Maxon (Lockerbie and Lochmaben respectively). Never mind there is always next year!
Our Away Day at Stocksfield was a thoroughly enjoyable day from start to finish. Grant from Irvings Coaches had delayed a family celebation to be able to drive us, as he has done for the last four years. We had brilliant weather, sunshine all the way, which allowed us to sit out on the terrace both before and after our competition on their challenging course. Well done to Paula Dixon, Liz Auld and Lynn Jones who won the Team Competition on the day. Then we enjoyed a delicious two course meal before the presentation of the prizes. I have to thank Susan for all her hard work in organising the day and will reflect on the day with happy memories when I review the photos.
The next big events in September will be my Lady Captain’s Charity Day, and Finals Day. So to all those ladies involved in finals I wish you all ‘Good Luck’. To get to any final is a great achievement, so you are all winners in my eyes.
That’s all for now, more next month.
