Once again I must start my newsletter with ‘Congratulations’ – to all our winners from Finals Day. For those of you who were not there to see some very competitive matches and good golf, I will let you know who won.
Rebecca McIntyre retained the Ladies Club Championship
Margaret Gilder won the Intermediate Championship
Shirley Palmer won the Bronze Championship
Katie Sibley won the Peace Trophy
Nicola Tebbutt & Katie Sibley won the Ladies Foursomes
Doreen Turnbull & Veronica Craig won the Senior Ladies Greensomes
These trophies and our Major Competition Trophies will be presented to the winners at our Ladies Presentation Dinner on Friday, 11th November. It is normally a great evening and is open to all our ladies to attend – there is a notice in the Locker Room with full details of the menu etc.
Caroline Ritchie and her Cecil Leitch B Team Squad, were invited as winners of Cecil Leitch Division 4 to the County Presentation Dinner, which this year was held at Carlisle Golf Club at the end of September. Caroline and her team looked fabulous as they received their winning Shield (as you can see from their photo above).
Ethel Owston and Joyce Cowen were named joint winners of the Salver for the player winning the most points for their team – well done girls!
My Lady Captain’s Charity Day is certainly a day I will never forget.
‘The Olympics’ theme showed how imaginative you can all be when dressing up, and I hope you all enjoyed playing the revised course. When I came up with the theme, never in my wildest dreams was I expecting to see a ‘Safari Buggie’ or our Lady President dressed up in a Lion Onesie! As I said before, a day I will never forget. I have to thank Susan, Lisa, Pat, Jean and Nicola for helping pull everything together and carry it through to the end of the Closing Ceremony.
We raised £335 for the Captains’ Charities – so another huge ‘Thank You’ for your support and the generosity of ladies and sponsors of team prizes and raffle prizes for the day.
We have played our two annual ‘Friendly’ matches:-
v Powfoot – (Sunningdale Greensomes) – Carlisle won 3 – 1
v Penrith and Hexham – (Individual Stableford) – Penrith won, 2nd Carlisle and 3rd Hexham.
Our Ladies Quiz Night in October went well and I was pleased to see that some of the ladies from our Get into Golf initiative joined us for the evening. Barbara Mitchinson and her team won the quiz, they came from behind to win in the final section. We had a fun night & learnt that ‘tinkling’ is a dance from the Philippines. There was also included a putting challenge which was won by Christine Hetherington, one of the Get into Golf ladies!
We have now decided on the new ‘Club Colours’ –from the Glenmuir Core Range, hot pink shirts and navy jumpers. There are details in the Locker Room with discounted prices for orders taken and paid for in November.
Graeme has samples of the shirts and jumpers in various sizes if you need any help with your selections.
Next on the agenda are the Ladies Presentation Dinner, the Captains’ Dance, the Local Charity Day (this year it is the RNLI) and then our Christmas Texas Scramble and Party. Susan and I are working on something a bit different for entertainment this year – definitely not another song and dance routine.
I can tell my year as your Lady Captain is drawing to a close, as the nights are getting darker, the clocks have gone back and we are now playing winter team competitions and the Winter Ringer. Thankfully, other than on the day of the Closing Tea Party & Meg’s Mug Competition when it poured down and we all got drenched, the weather has been remarkably good for this time of year – long may it continue.
For those of you who have not been at the Club recently, our new Head Chef Gavin is trying something new – there is now a ‘Sunday Roast’ every week and ‘Afternoon Tea’ on Saturday, 26th November. It would be good if we could show him our support for these events.
I think that is everything I wanted to let you know about in this Newsletter, so that’s all for now, more next month.
Cheers
Lesley Wilkinson
