Was it something I said last month about summer having arrived, that saw the rain return? However, as the course was looking very dry & burnt in places it is lovely to see it all lush and green again.

I really do have to start this newsletter by saying a huge ‘Thank You’ to all of you for making my Lady Captain’s Day such a fantastic day for me full of wonderful memories. From starting everyone off on the 1st tee, seeing some of you at the Halfway House, then greeting you all back for the Prosecco Reception before our Meal and Presentation, I enjoyed every minute of it. I have a comprehensive record of the day with lots of photos of everyone to look back on – and thanks to Judy for taking control of my camera at night.

I was delighted to have the men join us both on the course and for the meal and that both winners (Barbara Scott & Barry Hickie) and virtually all the other winners were there for the Presentation. My thanks have to go to our Ladies Committee for assisting with the organisation and baking, Anne Nichol for the flowers, Jo and the catering staff for looking after us all in the Clubhouse, the Pro Shop and the Greens Staff for all their help with prizes, the on course challenges and putting up the gazebo for the Halfway House. Lastly, thank you all for the beautiful bouquet of flowers, they were magnificent and lasted 2 weeks.

Congratulations to Ronnie Auld (Liz’s husband) and Anne Nichol who both had a ‘Hole in One’ in June. Ronnie’s was at the 2nd Hole and Anne’s at the 13th Hole (in a Cecil Leitch Match – she won the hole!!!!).

Jacqui Raw and Barbara Mitchinson unfortunately lost their Daily Mail Foursomes match against Langholm – but they gave it their all and took it to the 21st hole before they were beaten!
Our Teams are now well into their matches with a mixture of results – they are detailed at the end of this newsletter and on the board in the locker room.

Our team in the One Day Team Trophy at Kendal, tried their very best, but on the day we did not feature in the prizes. I know we talk a lot about slow play, but it took 2 hours to play the first 6 holes – need I say more!

Our Ladies Recruitment Drive starts on Wednesday, 20th July 2016, with a free Taster Session. Ladies will have an intro to golf on the practice ground with Graeme 6.30-7.30pm, followed by wine and cupcakes in the Clubhouse with myself and a couple of other ladies. We are then hoping to get them to register for our Ladies Beginners Course, which includes 4 x 1 hour lessons with Graeme. We have embraced the England Golf ‘Get into Golf’ Scheme, which is a national programme to get more ladies into golf. So ladies, if you have any sisters, daughters, cousins or friends that you think may be interested in taking up golf, this is a fantastic way to get them started.

Ladies Golf Taster Event Information

Our next big event is the Ladies Open Team Event on Tuesday, 12th July 2016. We have a large entry and look forward to welcoming ladies teams from other Clubs to Carlisle. As always, the Committee are working hard in the background to organise everything, but you can help by donating a bottle or chocolates for the raffle. Any donations will be gratefully received, just hand them in to any lady committee member.

Ladies, enjoy your golf wherever you are playing, whether it be in competitions or socially at Carlisle or in Opens elsewhere.

That’s all for now, more next month.
