The season is now fully under way, despite the somewhat cold and today on Bank holiday Monday, wet weather that we are having to endure. We have received a communication from England Golf that we are allowed to extend the use of preferred lies up to 30 May, it would normally be 30 April. So, for the time being preferred lies remain in force and we will review as the month progresses. The hope would be that we get enough growth before the Gemini Competition on 14 May to be able to dispense with them, with the course in great condition for Mens Captains day on 21 May.
Some of you may have noticed that we have swapped the Terris Texas Scramble to 29 May, with the Pro-Am qualifier now on 8 May, all to do with the date of the Pro-Am itself, which is before the 29 May, which was the original date for the qualifier.
Due to demand for competition start times on a Saturday in the mens section, all those new members who want to play golf !, we have extended the morning times from 7.30 am. to 10.30 am, originally the cut off was at 10.00 am. Consequently the “gap” has shrunk by 30 minutes, with the second set of starting times remaining at 11.30 am. This will be reviewed as the season progresses.
And finally congratulations to those who are showing some early season form. Ian Dixon won the Williamson final with 40 points after a card playoff with Dan Convery, Ian’s score was helped by three twos on his card, probably made more in the twos, than winning the competition ! Harry Taylor won the Lombard Qualifying with 42 points with Peter Clapperton coming second. This week-end The Bendall was won by Kieron Waters with scores of 75 + 66 for a 36 hole total of 141, second was Stephen Jobson one shot adrift on 142, his overall score assisted by a hole-in-one during his first round, he has now joined the hole in one club that took John Hext to Sawgrass, earlier this year. The Crossling was won by the former 10 handicapper, David Edgar with a net 68, second was Harry Taylor with a net 69. Graeme was heard to bemoan, “ he was supposed to be keeping his handicap, not getting it cut again”, as of course they are off to play in the regional heat of the Lombard.
May is a busy month for competitions, with another seven available to enter before the end of the Month. In addition the sheet is also on the board for Captains Away Day to Westerhope, please note the date has switched from 27 May to Friday 3 June, get you name in early, it’s going to be a great away day, and Tom has guaranteed that the sun will shine !
